Florida Democratic Congress members have despatched a letter to the director of the federal Workplace of Administration and Funds, Russell Vought, urging him to rethink slashing federal jobs held by meteorologists and hurricane specialists.
Congress members expressed issues over job cuts throughout the Nationwide Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Nationwide Climate Service.
The letter was penned every week after billionaire Elon Musk’s Division of Authorities Effectivity started chopping jobs throughout the federal companies.
“Florida isn’t any stranger to the devastating impacts of hurricanes, and our communities rely upon NOAA’s correct and well timed forecasting to make life-saving choices,” the letter mentioned.
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who represents Broward County, mentioned she wrote the letter “with out partisan rhetoric” to encourage Republicans to signal it.
“Sadly, they refused to unite round our residents’ security,” Wasserman Schultz mentioned in an announcement to the Tampa Bay Instances.
The federal cuts come on the heels of a historic hurricane season in Tampa Bay after Hurricanes Helene and Milton dealt back-to-back punishing blows to the area.

Within the letter, Congress members say workforce reductions to climate and hurricane forecasting influence security and emergency preparedness.
