WASHINGTON – Thursday morning, each Democrat elected from Florida to the U.S. Home of Representatives voted towards a measure that may require proof of U.S. citizenship be offered to register to vote in federal elections.
The SAVE Act, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, was accepted by the chamber, 220-208. It should acquire Senate approval earlier than heading to President Donald Trump’s desk.
Of the 220 yea votes, 4 have been Democrats.
And of the 208 Democrats, eight have been from Florida: Kathy Castor, Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, Lois Frankel, Maxwell Frost, Jared Moskowitz, Darren Soto, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Federica Wilson.
In the meantime, each Republican within the chamber current voted yea. For this vote, each Florida Republican was current.
Democrats had argued it included provisions that disenfranchise voters.
“Underneath any technique of voter registration in a State, the State shall not settle for and course of an software to register to vote in an election for Federal workplace until the applicant presents documentary proof of United States citizenship with the applying,” the invoice textual content states.
