Vero’s Beaches experience a great variation in tides, which will affect your beachgoing experience. Approximately every 6 hours, the tide changes from High to Low to High to Low, and on and on it goes!
During Low Tide, the beach will be more expansive, and often have a large area of firm, flat sand near the waterline that makes walking on the beach easier and more pleasurable. Also, the waves will be diminished, and you can usually wade quite a ways out into the water and still only be up to your waist.
Conversely, at High Tide, there will be Less Beach and Bigger Waves, and it may be a little harder to walk on softer, sloping sand. But each part of the eternal cycle has its charms!

And we are blessed in Vero Beach, because you can go swimming in the Ocean pretty much year round! In the winter months, you are likely to experience a little chill at first, especially if you’ve been a Floridian for a while! But if you’re used to swimming in places like Lake Michigan, Cape Cod, or your local swimming hole in Vermont, you’ll be loving it! And by the time Late Spring rolls around, the water gets really warm, and you’ll feel like you’re in the Tropics!
