TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed two new payments geared toward strengthening animal safety legal guidelines throughout the state. The laws, often known as Trooper’s Legislation and Dexter’s Legislation, introduces harsher penalties for animal cruelty and establishes new authorized protections for pets throughout pure disasters.
Trooper’s Legislation, formally Senate Invoice 150, makes it a third-degree felony to restrain and abandon a canine open air throughout a declared pure catastrophe or underneath necessary or voluntary evacuation orders. Offenders may withstand 5 years in jail and a $10,000 advantageous. The regulation additionally codifies first-degree misdemeanor penalties for failing to offer confined animals with satisfactory meals, water, and train, or for abandoning them.
The regulation was named after a canine left chained within the path of Hurricane Milton, who was later rescued by the Florida Freeway Patrol.
